90th Anniversary

The 6th Allerton Scout Group is celebrating its 90th Anniversary!

The group is 90 years old and we are holding a few celebrations. As we believe the group first met possibly in November 1926 we began our celebrations on Saturday 26th November, with a bonfire and fireworks evening.

90th

The scout troop (237th Liverpool) was registered with the Scout Association on 14th Feb 1927, and the Cubs registered on 28th March 1927.

Open Day

We held an open day on Saturday 10th June 2017 as our main celebration, to which all present and former members or anyone associated with the group were invited.

On the open day, we dedicated the memorial below to past members and leaders.

Memorial

Over the 90 years there have been numerous people who have contributed to the success of the group and there have been some young people who died whilst still youth members.

In previous years ‘memorials’ have been produced, but nothing permanent.  The committee felt that rather than offend by leaving anyone out, there should be a memorial in the grounds to all those who have ‘gone home’ and to list the names inside the hut. This will make it easy to keep adding names as they are given to us for inclusion.

It is proposed that this will be at the edge of ‘the forest’ and take the form of the ‘gone home’ symbol. More details will be given at a later date as the details are finalised.

Anniversary Fund

Although we are celebrating 90 years current problems do not go away! As part of the celebrations the executive committee have developed the 90th Anniversary Project.

Included in the project are:

  • Main Hall
    • Replace floor
    • Improve heating
  • Kitchen
    • Replace floor covering
    • New cooker
  • Toilets
    • Install heating
    • Replace floor covering
    • Improve plumbing including installing hot water
    • Create disabled toilet
  • Access
    • Better disabled access
    • Improve floor in entrance passage

To be able to do everything in this project would require possibly in excess of around £25,000.  The executive committee are pursuing a policy of carrying out parts of the project, as funds materialise.

We would of course welcome any donations you could give. Please CONTACT US if you would like to contribute to the fund.
